Appleton and Lange's 1999 Drug Guide is great

Really informative

A wide variety of techniques, great giftThe book starts out with a brief history of papermaking. It then teaches you how to make a mold and deckle as well as a paper press. Making pulp from both recycled papers and plants; forming sheets and then drying the paper is then demonstrated. There is a great two-page layout showing the results of using 12 different plants.
A variety of techniques for decorating the paper are then covered. Some include fluting, piercing, impressing, weaving, making patterns, using a resist and block printing. Marbling both with and without sizing is also covered.
My favorite section uses the decorated papers for three-dimensional art. It covers various papier mache methods as well as how to cover objects such as boxes, tabletops and trays. It also shows you how to make lampshades, window shades/blinds, privacy screens, jewelry, frames, cards, purses and folders.
The last section demonstrates bookbinding techniques for single section, multi-section, soft and hardcover books. I have done quite a bit of bookbinding and I felt the instruction here was somewhat lacking and hard to follow.
A glossary, index, small list of suppliers and bibliography of books that cover each one of the crafts more in depth is very useful. Overall this book is great for anyone seeking to learn the basics of a variety of paper arts without having to buy a bunch of books. It also makes a great gift.

great illustrationsWhat really brings the story to life are the illustrations. Craig Orback has done some beautiful paintings! I particularly enjoy the rich color and expansive feeling of the landscapes and skyscapes. The characters are expressive. A few pages are stunning in their warm light and vivid color. I felt really drawn to them. In fact, I think the book would be completely interesting and inspiring to me even if I couldn't read and it were being read to me before bedtime.
I reccomend this book for the excellent art and the inspiring (and maybe little known) story of early African American accomplishment.

Very good romanceCathryn McGrath is the paragon of female adulthood. She is a wonderful wife and mother. Part of the core of her essence ends when she learns her spouse Dylan informs her the world's changing and walks out on her and their children for another woman.
After being away for years, Tucker returns to Harmony. He sees Cathryn and realizes he still is attracted to her. She reciprocates although she wonders about men in general. As Cathryn and Dylan fall in love, the reformed bad boy knows he must deal with a personal problem before he can commit to Kathryn. He is not sure that his beloved can do so too but he prays his conscience-driven obligations still allow him the opportunity to try.
CATHRYN is a tender contemporary romance starring two lead characters, who, for varying reasons, distrusts love. The story line is fun as Cathryn and Tucker struggle to forge a relationship that both question even knowing they have found their soul mate. Shannon Waverly completes her warm trilogy of three friends finding love (see JULIA and LAUREN) with this beguiling tale.

Nice CombinationThere is nothing highbrow about this collection; indeed, the writer manages to imprint in his stories the love of a game that has as its roots, the rural and small town areas of the country. Shannon is no Cormac McCarthy, but his stories have a great deal of heart and enough intrigue to grab the reader's interest.
The poems, which are assembled from three previous shorter collections, are written in the straight-ahead fashion that I have come to expect from Shannon. He has lived close to the game, and these poems take the reader there. Whether he's writing about Willie Mays, Ernie Banks, or the troubled Pete Rose Reds of the 80's, there's never any doubt about the authenticity of his knowledge, never any doubt that he will deliver work that is both entertaining and moving.
